1776, 1966 (2006)

1776, 1966 (2006) is a digital video loop made from a 1966 US Army recruitment commercial entitled Great Moments, in which the story of the 1776 Battle of Trenton is retold, reenacted and contextualized for recruitment for the Vietnam War. In 1776, 1966 (2006), a few frames are taken from a transitional cinematic dissolve within the commercial and looped repeatedly. Within this kaleidoscopic loop sequence, Emmanuel Leutze's 1851 historical painting Washington Crossing the Delaware dissolves into filmed actors reenacting the crossing.
